Jake Allan Wins Dr. J. L Eggens Award

Dol Turf employee, Jake Allan wins scholarship for leadership and academic proficiency

This week, Dol Turf employee, Jake Allan won the Dr. j. L Eggens scholarship for leadership and academic proficiency. The scholarship was voted on by fellow classmates and professors, and will be commemorated in the banquet wall as a permanent fixture for all to see.

When describing how it felt to win, Mr. Allan explained "I was incredibly honoured, proud and humbled to win this award. Knowing I had a positive impact on the learning experience of others is hugely gratifying."

The award had added significance to Mr. Allan, as he shares his personal connection to the award " I owe a lot to my professors. their passion and enthusiasm for their taught subjects was tangible every day. When you have a teacher who cares it makes a world of difference. The award also meant a lot as my father was actually taught by Dr. Eggens back in the late 70s and early 80s."

When asked about his future, Allan responded "I think taking this course has really helped me find some direction in my career. I now feel more than confident that I can succeed and make a difference in the industry going forward. It’s given me a lot of thought about continuing my education further. Maybe at penn state one day."

When asked about his experience at Dol Turf, Allan commented "Dol has helped my career advancement immensely. I’ve had such a great opportunity to work in so many different turf laden environments from synthetic fields to high end golf courses and everything in between. Because of the amount of work we do across Ontario I’ve been able to build an extensive network of contacts in the industry in a very short field of time. The company always encourages growth and promotion from within by providing educational opportunities to staff. I could not have done this without the support of our team at Dol/Allturf."
